I read this poem today by Henry Van Dyke and it encouraged me.  I hope it does you too….

“I am standing upon the seashore.  A ship…spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.  She is the object of beauty and strength.  I stand and watch until…she hangs like a speck of white cloud where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.  Then someone at my side says, ‘She’s gone!’ 'Gone where?’  Gone from my sight.  That’s all.  She’s just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left…Her diminished size is in me, not her.   And just at the moment when someone says, 'There’s she’s gone!’  there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the joyful shout, 'Here she comes!’  And that is dying.

  • Turning our problems into prayers…Nehemiah 1: 5-11

The book of Nehemiah stands near the end of history section of the Bible.  It records one of the three major waves of Jewish exiles who returned to Israel after the 70 years of Babylonian captivity. But, its main source is the life and leadership of the man who led this wave, Nehemiah.
