“Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

This statement by the Lord Jesus was precipitated by a request… “Remember me?”  It reminds us of the story of Joseph in the Old Testament.  He was locked in a dungeon for years because of something he did not do.  After meeting and interpreting the dreams of  two men, Pharaoh’s baker and cupbearer, Joseph asks to be remembered and restored from prison, but he was forgotten and remained in prison for the next two years.  Perhaps this describes you today.  You are here in body, but in Spirit you feel forgotten.  Forgotten by your family, forgotten by your friends, forgotten by God.  If that describes you today, I have good news for you.  Your story is not over…

It was not over for Joseph…

One night Pharaoh had a dream that troubled him.  The cupbearer finally remembered Joseph which led to his release from prison, his successful interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream, and his promotion to second in command of Egypt.  You see, the cupbearer may have forgotten Joseph, but God never did!

It was not over for the thief on the cross…

Jesus remembered the repentant thief and brought him to Paradise that very day.  It did not matter what he had done in his past, nor that he would never have the opportunity to change in the future.  The key to his salvation was his faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

It is not over for YOU…

Jesus is saying to each one of us today, “I won’t forget about you.”  “I won’t leave you in prison.” “I will come to you.”  “I will set you free!”  For it was not just the dying thief Jesus spoke to that day.  Through the ages of time, he is speaking today to you and to me.  Remember you and I are under the same sentence as these criminals.  We have all sinned. There is no “get out of jail free card”.  We have no hope of escape from the punishment we deserve.  But, Jesus says, “I will remember you”.  Even though you have sinned, even though you are condemned, I will remember you.  And, that is what it means to be saved.  It’s not to be forgotten by a merciful God.
